After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Radio/TV/Film production from California State University, Northridge, Jay went on to Ad Center — the place one goes to get into advertising. In 1983, he joined Dailey & Associates in Los Angeles as copywriter. He spent several years there working on Honda, Carnation Brands, Western Airlines, the California Avocado Commission, and Godfather’s Pizza.
Jay’s Dailey departure landed him at Townsend & O’Leary in Orange County. In his eight years with T&O, he helped take Fantastic Sam’s Hair Salons and Uniglobe Travel to the top of their respective categories. His creative work was integral to winning $10 million in Century 21 regional business, as well as being awarded the assignment of producing Century 21’s national corporate television campaign.
In 1994, Jay moved to Reno, NV to head up the creative department at DRGM, the largest agency in the state at that time. His work for Porsche Cars North America, the Reno-Sparks Convention Authority, the Northern Nevada Toyota Dealers, and Mazda/Kia of Northern Nevada earned the agency a multitude of regional and national awards.
Think! City, a branding firm, offered Jay a chance to return to Southern California in the capacity of Partner, Executive Creative Director. While there, Jay worked on reinventing the Prudential Real Estate organization.
In 1998, Jay moved from branding to brand marketing as Vice President, Creative Director at Frankel Southern California. He helped take the office from a staff of eight to a staff well over 100 with the acquisitions of Nestlé Beverage, Nestlé PetCare, Pioneer Electronics, Toyota, and Fleetwood Homes.
In 2002, Jay’s entrepreneurial blood got the best of him and he opted to put his efforts into Imagine That. Picture This. — a creative services boutique handling national clients such as Calavo (the first name in avocados), Kaman Music Corporation (Ovation, Hamer and Takamine Guitars, Gretsch Drums, Toca Percussion, etc.), Price Law Group (the country’s leading bankruptcy attorneys), and Kettley Publishing (leading developer of financial solutions software).
